All servicesMechanical Engineering Construction/ Fabrication
Roads, civil & mechanical. Roads and civil engineering construction on land and at the waterside, and mechanical construction and fabrication in Winsko's own covered workshop.
The service
Fabricated under cover, erected on site.
Winsko's fabrication workshop sits on its base at Trans-Woji, Port Harcourt: a roofed bay with a 50-ton overhead crane, a 75-ton hydraulic press, welding, cutting, blasting and painting equipment.
It builds steelwork and piping for the oil and gas jobs, from platform decks, drain platforms and helipad mesh to manifolds, skids, spools and flow station piping. It has also built Winsko's own tug boats, house boats and barges, and the company profile lists more under construction.
Clients lease the workshop to carry out their own fabrication, and it is often busy with both. Finished work goes straight from the bay to the jetty and onto Winsko's barges.

Scope of work · 06 work packages
What the work covers.
- 01
Structural steel
Platform decks, drain platforms, walkways, ladders, helipad structures and mesh.
- 02
Piping, spools and skids
Spools, manifolds, headers, metering and equipment skids and flow station piping, welded to procedure.
- 03
Mechanical erection
Equipment, piping and manifolds set and connected on site, tanks and their appurtenances erected, and scaffolding put up to reach the work.
- 04
Vessels and boats
Barges, tug boats and house boats, built in Winsko's own yard.
- 05
Surface preparation and painting
Blast cleaning and airless spraying of protective coatings.
- 06
Workshop hire
The workshop and its crane leased to clients for their own fabrication.
Method · 06 stages
From the drawing to the jetty.
How a fabrication job runs through the workshop, with the checks that close each stage.
- 01
Drawings and cutting list
Shop drawings are checked against the design, and a cutting list is drawn up with the material grades and the welding procedures each joint will use.
- Drawings approved
- Material grades confirmed
- Welding procedures assigned
- 02
Cutting and preparation
Plate, section and pipe are cut, bevelled and cleaned, and every piece is marked so it can be traced back to its certificate.
- Cut sizes checked
- Bevels to the procedure
- Heat numbers transferred to each piece
- 03
Fit-up and welding
Pieces are fitted, tacked and checked before welding by qualified welders, under the overhead crane for the heavy assemblies.
- Fit-up checked before welding
- Preheat and consumables controlled
- Welds logged to the welder

Spool fabricationIllustration - 04
Inspection
Welds and dimensions are inspected, and any repairs are made and inspected again before the piece moves on.
- Visual and NDT as specified
- Dimensions against the drawing
- Repairs re-inspected
- 05
Blasting and painting
Steel is blast-cleaned and coated with airless spray to the paint system the client specifies.
- Surface profile and cleanliness checked
- Coating thickness measured
- Cure before handling

Load-out
The finished work is lifted out of the bay and taken to the jetty for loading onto the barge, or collected by the client.
- Lift plan for heavy pieces
- Protection for coated surfaces
- Records handed over with the steel
